Will the big bore have an engine brake?

Yes, the MaxxForce™ big bore will have an optional engine brake. Over time, International will share more news about the high performance braking solutions made possible through the innovative design of this engine.

What is International’s relationship with MAN?

The MaxxForce™ big bore engine results from a strategic agreement between International and MAN Nutzfahrzeuge to collaborate on design, development, sourcing and manufacturing of components and systems for commercial trucks. From this, we are able to bring many innovations to the North American market, allowing International dealers the opportunity to sell superior, differentiated vehicles.

For example, the MaxxForce™ big bore will build upon the engine foundation developed by MAN (pronounced M-A-N), including a compacted graphite iron block for strength with less weight. International will be the first North American manufacturer to offer this block material. The block also features a unique acoustic design to dampen noise. To this base, MaxxForce™ will incorporate International air and fuel systems for outstanding performance and 2007 North American emissions compliance.

Will the MaxxForce™ big bore meet 2007 emissions?

The big bore engine will be fully 2007 emissions-compliant. International's big bore and mid-range engines will be equipped with our Green Diesel Technology®, which provides optimized drivability and life cycle value, while meeting strict emissions requirements. Green Diesel Technology is proven over five years of continuous research, development, and real-word performance. The flexibility of Green Diesel Technology allows International to design application-specific solutions using advanced air management, selected fuel-system application, proprietary combustion strategies, electronic controls and optimized after-treatment solutions.

When will the MaxxForce™ big bore engine be available?

Beginning In Fall 2007, the MaxxForce™ big bore will be available exclusively in International heavy trucks and tractors for regional haul, long haul and severe service applications. Where are you on the design and development program for the new big bore engine?

International has completed the engine design and is running prototypes in test cells and in vehicles. International will develop these engines to assure outstanding performance and operating costs during 2006 and 2007. Through this comprehensive testing program we expect to accumulate 12 million miles in regular commercial service in North America before start of production in the fall of 2007.
